As a proud member of the National Water Safety Council, AUSTSWIM welcomes the release of the refreshed Australian Water Safety Strategy 2030, a national roadmap to halve drowning deaths by the end of the decade.

Released halfway into its 10-year horizon, the Strategy responds to rising drowning rates and calls for strengthened swimming and water safety skills, locally led solutions and stronger coordination across governments, sectors and communities.

“Swimming and water safety skills save lives,” said Brad Maunsell, CEO of AUSTSWIM.

“If we are serious about halving the number of drowning deaths by 2030, we must invest in quality swimming and water safety education from early childhood and ensure communities have access to skilled, well‑trained teachers. AUSTSWIM is proud to continue to work alongside our National Water Safety Council partners to continue to turn this Strategy into action.”

AUSTSWIM looks forward to continuing to work with governments, industry and community partners to deliver practical, evidence‑based solutions that help all Australians enjoy water safely.
