Happy National Child Protection Week! (7-13 September, 2025)
Working with AUSTSWIM to create the AUSTSWIM online Safeguarding Children and Young People PD has honestly been one of the most meaningful projects I’ve been part of. Every swim teacher and pool operator I’ve met has one thing in common, a deep commitment to keeping children and young people safe while helping them thrive in the water.
The recent childcare crisis has reminded us all that no sector is immune from risk. Families put enormous trust in the adults around their children, and aquatics is no different. As adults, it’s on us to step up, children and young people rely on us to notice, to act, and to keep them safe.
Whether you’re in the pool teaching or part of the centre environment, knowing what to look out for matters. That’s what this PD is designed to give you, the confidence and tools through our 5R model: recognise, respond, report, record and reflect.
I’m really proud of what we’ve created with AUSTSWIM. This training is about more than ticking a box, it’s about building a culture where children and young people feel secure, supported, and safe. Because at the end of the day, every child should leave the pool not just a stronger swimmer, but safer in their world.
